Project Management

As needs and projects continously change, we at OPTO have to be flexible in the respect of technical competence. Therefore OPTO works with an inner-core of project managers and co-ordinators, while maintaining a vast network of international and national experts in all fields of development co-operation. The result is a boundless organisation, always providing truely tailor-made management set-ups for project implementation.

The need for competent project management expertise required in international development co-operation projects is increasing as a consequence of the more complex and multi-disciplinary projects. OPTO is well-suited and prepared for this changing reality, as good project management is at the centre of all our projects. We always put the interest of the project first when designing the technical competence for a specific project.

OPTO closely follows the development of Sida, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, as most of OPTO's projects are funded by Sida. Therefore, the policies and procedures that form the foundation of Sida serve as guidelines for OPTO's work.

OPTO works according to the philosphy of pursuing demand-driven development strategies. OPTO is also a proponent of the learning organisation and subscribes to planning with the Logical Framework Approach and to monitoring process through the application of verifiable indicators. Moreover, in applying the results of monitoring for system improvement, OPTO involves all stakeholders in the evaluation process. In this way OPTO has become a leading advocate in the field of participatory appraisal methodologies. OPTO is among the leading organisations in Sweden regarding the development and implementation of participatory phase-out strategies of development projects.
